This book was created in response to the ISTD 2015 Brief.
Design Ethics: The Common Language is a collection of Ken Garland’s First Thing First 1964 Manifesto translated into several languages - English (the original language), Armenian, Chinese, Indonesian and Japanese.
The purpose of this book is to make the historical piece more accessible to a multitude of cultures. It is also to communicate that designers have one common language (design ethics), despite our cultural differences.
These differences are demonstrated through the layout of the text, which is inspired by the cultural architecture of each language.
